HAILEBURY pupils, staff and parents are celebrating the exceptional GCSE grades achieved by its pupils today.
Despite the disruptions to education caused by the pandemic, Haileybury’s teachers and staff reacted quickly to deliver high-quality education, teaching and learning from home. The school-wide effort has been reflected in today’s GCSE results as Haileybury pupils achieve outstanding grades.
A third of all grades were awarded at the top grade 9, 60% of all grades were awarded at 9, 8 or A* and a significant 84% of grades were awarded at 9, 8, 7 or equivalent. These results are a cause for celebration, reflecting the hard work, resilience and tenacity of Haileybury pupils.

Alongside this, a third of all Haileybury pupils achieved straight 9, 8 and A* grades.
This follows a very strong year for Haileybury’s sixth formers who achieved a fantastic set of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) results early this year and A level results earlier this week. When combined, the 2021 graduating class of Haileybury achieved a brilliant 95% of grades at A*-B or the equivalent.
This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided that young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work pupils produced throughout their course. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades. It is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of Haileybury’s pupils that they achieved such exceptional results in such difficult circumstances.
The Master of Haileybury, Martin Collier, commented:
“These exceptional results stand as testament to the outstanding efforts of the 2021 (i)GCSE cohort of pupils. They showed extraordinary resilience in the face of considerable challenges, and they worked hard, especially during the period of the assessments. We are very proud indeed of the pupils and we congratulate them on achieving a wonderful set of examination results.”
On receiving her GCSE grades, Lena, commented:
“I feel really proud of myself for achieving such great results since I had been working really hard and finally have proof that all my work paid off.”
Another Haileybury pupil, Arhyam, added:
“My teachers were very supportive and reassuring. At times I would doubt myself, but their reassurance gave me confidence.”
Speaking on his results and plans to celebrate, Haileybury pupil, Declan, said:
“To celebrate, we are going to a waterpark for the day and are going out for a celebratory dinner tonight. I’m feeling very relieved to have been awarded straight 9s, I’m so glad that my hard work has paid off.”
