John Foster: Keeping the flame alive for his son Robert who was killed in Afghanistan

History / Thu 19th Aug 2021 at 11:22am

THERE IS a dignity to John Foster that is so so admirable.

In August 2013, this reporter was driving down Mowbray Road when he saw a group of people by the bench outside Jads Newsagents.

We got out and soon learned all about the death of Private Robert Foster in Afghanistan in 2007.

As troops controversially withdraw from Afghanistan, we met up with John at the bench.

The years have not been easy for John and his family but he is still at the vanguard, helping other families and never forgetting about Robert.

I have spoken to people like myself who were not fortunate enough to have met Young Robbie Foster. But who's lives have been impacted by John Foster and his sharing of stories of Robbie. It's great to see Harlow is proud to remember one of its own.
