No cost trauma informed practice training open to all community groups working with children

Communities / Fri 20th Aug 2021 at 02:11pm

YOUTH focused community groups are invited to attend online training at no cost with experienced Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, who are qualified Attachment and Trauma Resolution Specialists.

Children’s mental health charity, Kids Inspire, has received funding to deliver Level 1 of an established three-part Trauma Informed Practice training free of charge to anyone who supports or works with children and young people.

The online training will enable adults to recognise behaviours in children and young people who have been impacted by traumatic experiences.  They will learn to spot triggers and will be introduced to the tools of stabilisation that reduce the symptoms of trauma and improve their capacity for learning, joy, resilience, self-regulation and social relationships.

Sue Bell OBE, Kids Inspire’s CEO and Clinical Director said: “The past two years have seen an increase in trauma symptoms for many children and young people. Trauma is anything that is too much, too fast, too soon and most recently that has been the pandemic.”

“When we are aware of what may lie behind the behaviour of our young people, our responses tend to be less reactive and more supportive. This specialist foundation training will give attendees the tools to create calmer, safer environments for the children and young people they support.”

A teacher who attended a previous Trauma Informed Practice training, said: “During the training, I gained the knowledge and understanding of how to de-escalate trauma symptoms and it allowed me the time and space I needed to reflect on my own emotional response to trauma.”

Once Level 1 is complete, participants are able to go on and complete Level 2 and 3 to deepen their Trauma Informed Practice training experience, building upon the information and skills developed in Level 1.

This training is possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, as part of a ‘Reaching Communities’ grant to continue specialist youth trauma resolution work within the wider Essex community.

Free tickets are available for the next training on Tuesday 7 September here.

Hello I'm 32 and have been looking for trauma help as there are apparently no charities. I was wondering if you could advise whether I'm too old or if there are other charities to help. Kindest regards
