A MOMENTOUS day for Redchurch as they scoop a further FOUR medals at the 2021 “WORLD BEER AWARDS” taking Redchurch’s haul of World Beer Awards to “NINE”!

A world beer award winning brewery in Harlow. This is the third year in succession the Harlow brewery has won at these awards. Not part of a major corporation, but a local independent craft brewer making a wide range of beers with love care and attention for every drinker’s taste

• The Redchurch Lager medalled in the Czech-style for the second time
• Great Eastern IPA with its huge citrus notes, debuted in American IPA category 
• Also making its first appearance is Hoxton Stout in the Porter & Stout category
• The Old Ford Export Stout made it THREE in a row with SILVER! In the “imperial stout” category

The World Beer Awards receives 1000’s of entries from over 36 countries. The judging panel looks at the beer type, country of origin and award just the Country’s Best, Gold, Silver and Bronze to the top four beers of each type from each country.

A new “Star” in the making 

Porn Star Martini named UK’s favourite cocktail – Knocking the minty Mojito off its perch, the cheekily titled Porn Star Martini is now the most popular cocktail in the UK, according to recent research.

Viewed as a modern classic, the Porn Star Martini is made with vanilla vodka, fresh passion fruit, passion fruit liqueur and lime juice, and is served with a shot of Champagne or Prosecco on the side.

The cocktail was created as recently 2002 by bartender and LAB bar founder Douglas Ankrah at The Townhouse bar in Knightsbridge. Ankrah first christened the cocktail the Maverick Martini, in a hat tip to a dodgy club in Cape Town but changed the name to the Porn Star Martini.

The cocktail became a hit at the LAB bar and will be forever associated with the hip hangout. “I called it the Porn Star Martini because I thought it was something that a porn star would drink. It’s pure indulgence, sexy, fun and evocative,” Ankrah said.

Redchurch looked for an inspiration for a new beer, and thought

It’s popular….You love it.  We thought, why blend and shake and chop and pour when you can simply pop a cold one?? So Pornstar Martini Pale Ale was born. The perfect match between beer and cocktail, the ultimate day drinking all day session companion! At just 4% ABV, this fruity goodness Is a pickup and go kind of beer! The perfect sunny session brewed to be shared by everyone…. this is not a “not for me” situation. This is a pallet pleaser for all (even the geezers).

What they are saying 

Deliciously DifferentPop the cap and you get the aroma of passion fruit immediately. It’s massive on the nose but not overpowering on the palate. A tasty pale ale with a smooth finish. An instant classic!!

How wrong can you be?! Well, this was a surprise. I was fully prepared not to like this thinking it would be no more than a marketing ploy. However, I was really taken with it – the aroma is strongly of passion fruit, but the taste is very well balanced. The fruit complements the ale rather than fights it. 

Perfect blendPerfect balance of flavours. Big punch in the face from the passion fruit smell with a smooth silk pale ale beer. Just fantastic!!! 

Since the launch Douglas Ankrah, the inventor of the Pornstar Martini and co-founder of ground-breaking London bar Lab passed away on 16 August.

Less calories for the younger drinker

Recent research highlighted that 78% of 18–35-year-olds are conscious of the calories in the alcohol they drink. As a result, Redchurch have created Light Work Lager with just 82 calories in a 330ml bottle. The other feedback was for the beer to still provide maximum flavour which the brewers at Redchurch have done with this 4% ABV great tasting beer. 

The beer is being launched at Chris Evan’s RunFest where 15,000 health-conscious runners are meeting for the weekend of 27-29^th August.
