Athletics: Big performances at Big Half for Harlow Running Club

HARLOW Running Club were represented at the Vitality Big Half, a mass participation race over the classic half marathon distance, starting at the iconic setting of Tower Bridge and finishing in Greenwich. Kevin Smith was first home for HRC finishing in 1117th place out of 9747 finishers in a superb 1hr 31min 34sec. He was followed by Jon Waight 1586th in a PB time of 1.36.43, Dominic Emery in a PB time of 1.53.03 and Bradley Holmes 6700th in 2.13.15 in his debut at the distance.
Meanwhile, at the Clacton Half Marathon Tony Russell, in his debut at the distance, finished in 54th place out of 279 finishers in a commendable 1.39.51. Janice Page was 145th in 1.59.00, Nick Ryley-Warren 207th in 2.13.31 and Yasmin Gregory 278th in 3.10.20 in her debut at the distance.
In the Clacton 10k Jacobus van der Poel finished in 97th place out of 220 finishers in 58.09.
At the Orion Harriers Forest 5, a 5 mile race through Epping Forest at Chingford, Martin Westley finished in 23rd place out of 178 finishers in 33.19.
A total of 71 runners completed parkruns on Saturday morning at various locations including 47 at Harlow parkrun.
There were personal best times for Adam Galloway, Steve Wright, John McCarthy, Kelly Spires and Emily Clibbens all at Harlow parkrun, Fieke Blackwell and Paige Bircham at the Gunpowder parkrun at Waltham Abbey and Mark Bentley at Hackney Marshes parkrun.
