Athletics: Incredibly busy weekend for Harlow Running Club

HARLOW Running Club produced four personal best times and a podium finish from seven runners at the St. Clare Hospice 10k at Hastingwood on Sunday morning.

They also helped raise much needed funds for the local charity. First home was Catherine Ridge in 14th place out of 90 finishers and 3rd Female in an excellent 46min 33sec. She was followed by Kerry Mavris in 17th place in a PB time of 47.59, Dave Goosetree 30th in 53.36(PB), Steve Wright 35th in 55.38(PB), Lisa Brett 51st in 60.47 in her debut at the distance, Mick Gleeson 52nd in 60.47(PB) and Dan Finch 62nd in 63.45.

Meanwhile, at the Milton Keynes Half Marathon Lee Webber finished in 49th place out of 557 finishers in a superb 1hr 33min 58sec and Sandra Webber was 305th in 2.10.23.

At the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park Half Marathon Teresa Stickland finished in 1122nd place out of 1366 finishers in 2.19.40.

The London Summer 10k route takes in the best of the City of Westminster, the City of London and Trafalgar Square. Amber Ingle finished the race in 370th place out of 5013 finishers in 47.28, a PB by over 12min.

Martin Westley finished the Orion Forest 5 Mile race at Chingford in 12th place out of 89 finishers in 32.59.

Several of our triathletes were in action at the weekend with many making their debut.

At the Box End Standard Triathlon in Bedford (1500m Lake Swim, 40.2 Km Bike, 10.2Km Run) Gail Nicholls finished in 246th place out of 316 finishers in 3.04.22.

The Saffron Walden Sprint Distance Triathlon (400m pool swim, 23km bike, 5k run) is a good introductory distance event and seven members made their triathlon debut. Pride of place went to Ben Usher finishing in 20th place out of 123 finishers in 1.14.56, a PB by over 22min. Terri Wiley, in her debut, was 49th in 1.24.36, Paul Dixon 68th in 1.31.15, Michelle Hyde 72nd in 1.32.38(Debut), Julia Gardiner 80th in 1.35.20, Domeric Emery 85th in 1.36.04(Debut), Joe Dainty 89th in 1.37.54(Debut), Janice Page 91st and 1st Female Vet 55 in 1.39.11, Jason Pite 99th in 1.43.33, Sue Reilly 107th in 1.48.18(Debut), Steve Warren 112th in 1.52.47(Debut) and Liz Roberts 114th in 1.53.32(Debut).

The London Duathlon takes place in and around Richmond Park and with various distances is billed as the worlds biggest Duathlon.

In the Full Duathlon (10k run, 44k bike, 5k run) Vicky Steadman finished in 301st place out of 1236 finishers in a fantastic 2.42.50, Vincent Martin was 1082nd in 3.45.29 and Sjaak van der Poel 1134th in 3.59.40.

In the Half Duathlon (5k run, 22k bike, 5k run) Yasmin Gregory finished in 529th place out of 536 finishers in 3.12.24.

At the Letchworth Duck & Dash Aquathlon (400m pool swim, 5k run) Dawn Elford finished in 87th place out of 89 finishers in 54.53 and Sara Coombes was 89th in 1.16.15.

A total of 54 runners completed parkruns on Saturday morning at various locations including 30 at Harlow parkrun. There were PBs from Kelly Spires at Harlow, Kirk Crudgington at Stevenage and Mark Bentley at the Gunpowder parkrun at Waltham Abbey
