IN a bid to find the ‘face’ of their upcoming Virtual Dog Walk fundraiser in September, West Essex based Disability Charity Accuro (Care Services) held a dog photo contest, asking participants to send in their best dog photos to be in with a chance to win prizes and be named the face of the Virtual Dog Walk, which is open for entries now.

Photos were uploaded to Accuro’s Facebook page and followers of the page, along with friends and family of the entrants voted by ‘liking’ their favourite photo. Following a week of votes, Fletcher the Dachshund was crowned the winner! Fletcher’s owner Jemma Wright, who is from Harlow told Accuro, “I found out about the competition through Instagram. I already knew of Accuro through my own work place so I thought why not enter Fletcher as a bit of fun. I did of course pester friends, family, work colleagues and online friends to vote for him though. I was surprised when he won but very pleased, even though I had done shameless promotion to get the votes! Thank you to everybody who voted and make sure you all enter the virtual walk!”

Communications and Community Fundraising Officer Chloe Salisbury said, “Each entry fee alone could sponsor one of our members to attend an hour at one of our clubs and services. Our services are fun, safe and inclusive, providing opportunities for local people with disabilities to try new things, develop life skills and make new friends in a supportive environment. So participants can have fun, earn themselves a fun medal and make a difference to our cause as they do so!”

Entry costs £7.50 and entrants will receive a finishers certificate and medal. Participants that choose to fundraise for their Dog Walk will receive a bespoke dog bandana in their finishers pack also.

Chloe added, “We’re hoping that some participants will choose to increase their impact by setting up a fundraising page and having their friends and family sponsor their dog walk. Whether you decide to fundraise or not though, we’re truly grateful to our dog walkers, your participation truly makes a huge difference.”

Accuro (Care Services) is a small, vibrant local charity, based in Start Hill. The charity provides clubs and services to Adults, Young People and Children with disabilities across West Essex including Harlow, Uttlesford and Epping.
