Residents anger over “invisible” road sign on Commonside Road

News / Wed 15th Sep 2021 at 09:45am

RESIDENTS around Commonside Road met with local Labour councillor Maggie Hulcoop to raise concerns that the 30 mph red flashing warning sign on Commonside Road isn’t visible due to trees not being cut back.

The matter had been reported and residents were told it would take two weeks for the issue is assessed claims Harlow Labour.

Councillor Hulcoop, who visited the site: “I’m appalled at the lack of action by the Tory-controlled council in not dealing with this matter as a priority.

The warning sign is there for a reason and the lack of maintenance of the tree is another example how essential services are getting worse”

“It was noted that clearly someone from the council had visited the site and the solution is to turn off the warning sign.

I will demand that the environment team could out and prune the tree and switch on the warning sign again.
Safety is more important than saving money.

“During the visit I was also told about the bin collection fiasco and some residents don’t trust that the food cabbie will get emptied “.

Cllr Hulcoop pledged that it will raise the concerns directly with the Tory portfolio holder and ask for action.

So the foliage has only been overgrown since the Lefties were booted out. Pull the other one.

Harlow Council has let the hedge rows, trees & grasses throughout the town totally over grow. Many parts are so overgrown cars are being forced to drive on the wrong side of the road to miss them and people are being forced to walk on the road because the paths are being overrun by bushes. The grass looks a complete mess and bin collections are so hit & miss we don't know what day the collections will be. The Council are already talking about putting the council tax up, why is this being allowed as they are not doing what they are supposed to do now.

Shouldn't need a sign really, 30mph is plenty.

The sign was visible about 4 weeks ago and has slowly disappeared. Annoyed about the response time from the council

I noticed the sign the other day and thought maybe i should get the scissors out... My mother complained today.. For the 4th time about her food waste bin still not collected in rundells.. Its on the verge of running away on its own.

I think councillor Hulcoop has got a cheek to get involved in this matter because when the party she represents was the administration party of Harlow, yes that's the Labour party. Residents had to wait forever to get over grown edges and Bush trimmed down despite the Former Labour administration party of Harlow increasing the council tax eight years of their nine years as the administration party of Harlow. Talk about two faced.

This problem all over Harlow. When I go for a walk with my elderly father in the areas of Longfield, Stile Croft and Spencer’s Croft there are many paths we can only walk single file due to the hedges /bushes so over grown that there is no room on the path so it really needs sorting out.

Someone needs to shake up the parks team. I have one living near me who gies out gor work at 7.30am only to be back indoors by 8.10am with his ride on mower parked at the side of the house. I gave Clr Durcan the details as he asked but nothing happened nor did he acknowledge me. The same guy seems to work when it pleases him. The whole team need shaking up and to do some work. Us tax payers are paying your wages!

Tony Durcan. Please check today. All the foliage has been cut and the sign is visible. New Council efficiency and responsiveness.

Well done to Maggie,it’s a shame we had to complain just to get this basic issue resolved.

Wow they managed to cut round a sign, this doesn't deserve a pat on the back. What about the rest of Harlow
