Has funding been slashed for new hospital for Harlow?

QUESTIONS have been raised whether funding for a new hospital for Harlow has been slashed?

This comes after concerns at the rising costs and continued delay in starting any new hospital projects around the country.

Private Eye has reported that in July, the health department wrote to the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and asked them to submit three sets of proposals: their preferred scheme, options for building the project in phases, and a plan for a new build costing no more than £400 million.

YH understands that PAH comes in at £600 million.

There are concerns that any form of phased construction could see years of disruption and runs the risk of not being completed if the money runs out.

YH did put a number of questions to the hospital media team but they have yet to reply.

Interesting news about a future hospital for Harlow! We need to know more detail please. Can Robert Halfon tell us? Or do we need the help of "Private Eye"?

I seem to remember seeing somewhere, some time ago, a comment that the plans for the access road to the “new” site had been withdrawn. Might have been in the Gilden Way updates. Bit of a clue?????

If this is true, then surely it must cast doubts as to whether the new planned Gilston Garden Town should go ahead. If a new hospital is not forthcoming then the NHS won't be able to cope with Harlow as it is, without the new development.
