Harlow politicians express shock after Southend West MP Sir David Amess dies after stabbing

Conservative MP Sir David Amess has died after being stabbed multiple times in an incident at his constituency surgery, police have said.
Harlow MP Robert Halfon said: “So so sad about Sir David Amess. He embodied Essex man. Kind, thoughtful funny, compassionate and generous spirited. May he rest in peace”.
HARLOW politicians have sent out messages of goodwill and expressed their concerns after Southend West MP Sir David Amess was stabbed multiple times in his constituency offices.
Fellow backbencher Robert Halfon said: “Truly devastating news. Sir David is an unbelievably kind and dedicated MP and my thoughts and prayers are with Sir David, his family and his team at this horrific time”.
Interim leader of Harlow Council, cllr Joel Charles said: “I’m deeply shocked to learn that Sir David Amess has been attacked whilst he met residents at his constituency surgery.
Harlow Labour leader said: “Shocked to hear of the attack on Essex MP David Amess. Hoping that he pulls through. Thinking of him and his family at this terrible time”.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm today (Friday 15 October).
“Officers were on scene shortly after, arrested a man and recovered a knife.
He is currently in custody.
We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the wider public.
We want to thank the public who alerted us to the incident so quickly.
