Stewards Academy relaunch creative writing club

Education: Secondary / Mon 18th Oct 2021 at 07:46am

THIS term has seen the relaunch of Stewards Academy Creative Writing Club, run by English teacher Mr. Springthorpe.

The club is open to all pupils and its aim is to offer opportunities for pupils of all writing abilities to discuss and develop their creative writing skills, providing a platform for pupil publishing and competition entry. The club will be offering a series of workshops centred around creative writing and offer opportunities for pupils to learn about publishing and how to promote their work.

The club has already registered with the Foyle Young Poets award through the National Poetry Society and is currently working on a writing project entitled ‘Water’ in association with Birmingham University and the National Literacy Trust. Future events will see the visit of professional writers and the production of an Academy anthology presenting pupils’ work.

Mr. Springthorpe said: ‘I am very impressed with the attendance and level of enthusiasm shown by the pupils. When we write creatively, we get to the heart of what it means to be human. Already, pupils have shown that they wish to write to express, communicate and use words to formulate ideas, stories, poems, and feelings. I look forward to the exciting opportunities the club can offer our pupils.’

The club runs every Thursday from 3:20pm and is open to all year groups.

Pupils or parents can contact Mr. Springthorpe for further details.
