WEST Essex based disability charity Accuro (Care Services) are celebrating after being awarded £20,000 from the Postcode Places Trust. The Grant has been awarded to the charity to aid in their mission to improve the mental wellbeing of people with disability in West Essex.

Postcode Places Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Accuro (Care Services) run a range of specialist services for children, young people and adults with a disability across West Essex. The charity’s services enable members to take part in a variety of social and leisure opportunities, which help to reduce social isolation, build confidence, and encourage independence.

Cool Connections is a Youth Group, running in Harlow one evening per week for young people with a disability aged 11-19. The group has been called a ‘Happy Place’ by members and ‘a lifeline’ by parents. Regina Cashman, whose son attends Cool Connections commented, 

“Accuro have been a lifeline for our family. They have helped bring my son right out of his shell and helped him to grow in confidence as well as gaining some independence to have an outlet of his own whilst also making lots of friends and being around others who understand him and let him just be himself.”

Accuro’s Operations Manager Alison McKeown said, 

“We are thrilled to have been awarded funding from the Postcode Places Trust. We believe our services make a real difference to our members and their families and this funding will help us to continue providing that valuable support to members across West Essex.”
