SUSTAINABILITY is at the core of everything Kao Data stands for.
In July 2021 they took a further step towards their Net Zero ambitions by becoming the UK’s first data centre to transition all back-up generators at their Harlow campus to HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel.
This pioneering move, made possible by partnering with Crown Oil, enabled us to reduce our net CO2 emissions from our generators by 90% and significantly reduced nitrogen oxide, particulate matter and carbon monoxide emissions.

Sounds great..reducing carbon emissions by 90%..But hold on a minute, this is for BACK UP DIESEL GENERATORS that shouldn't come into play unless there is a power cut?? So if my reasoning is correct..thats a 90% reduction of BIG FAT ZERO without a power outage..That led me to think!...what's the the real cost of data storage? A quick search brought up this site https://medium.com/stanford-magazine/carbon-and-the-cloud-d6f481b79dfe a shocking amount of every day energy use. The moral of this Article by the Eminent YH...DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE..and do our own investigations JN
