Candlelit vigil set for Stort Crossing planning meeting

News / Tue 16th Nov 2021 at 08:34am

OVER the next two days The Development Management Committees for both East Herts (16/11/21) and Harlow Council (17/11/21) will meet to make their final decisions to either accept or reject The Stort Crossing.

The Development Management Committee’s decision to support or oppose the crossing will ultimately
determine the area’s fate.

As such, it is probably one of the most important decisions they will ever make. There are over 400 formal objections under application 3/19/1051/FUL and only one in support by members of the public.

Also, just over 5700 members of the public have signed a petition opposing the crossing.

Robert Halfon MP tabled two Early Day Motions, 336: tabled on 19 July 2021 and EDM (Early Day Motion) 415: tabled on 09 September 2021.

Both of them opposing the river crossing.

In the Early Day Motion on 09 September 2021, Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, Leader of The House of Commons stated that even though planning decisions are made on a local level that the councillors and the developers must take note of the concerns of constituents.

Friends of Latton Island are holding a candlelight vigil outside the Civic Centre, Harlow on Wednesday 17/11/21 at 19.15 in opposition to The Stort Crossing. Harlow residents are warmly invited to join in support.”

Save Our Stort! The destruction of this area is wrong on so many levels, from the loss of local amenity and habitat to the climate crisis.
