HARLOW Running Club members Paskel and Fieke Blackwell escaped the cold UK weather to run in the Ultra X 125 Azores race. This a multi-stage ultra marathon that takes place over two days on the volcanic island of São Miguel in the Azores. The 78 mile race has several major climbs with a maximum climb of over 1,000m, but at least it was warm. Paskel finished in 8th place and 3rd Vet 40 in an exhausting 18hrs 05min 27sec and Fieke was 8th and 2nd Female Vet 30 in 20.00.03.
Meanwhile, at a cold and windy Hatfield 5 Mile race Jon Waite finished in 99th place out of 545 finishers in a superb PB time of 32.23, Terri Wiley was 143rd in 34.16(PB), John Tennant 250th and 1st Vet 70 in 39.57, Dave Goosetree 436th in 50.16 and Paul Watts 437th in 50.15.
At the Turkey Trot Challenage Half Marathon at the HorseHeath Racecourse in Cambridgeshire Laura Prime finished in 7th place out of 24 finishers and 2nd Female in 2.04.09.
John McCarthy produced a PB run at Harlow Parkun finishing in a time of 24.42.
The Essex Road Racing Championships are held annually over several distances – 5M, 10K, 10M, Half Marathon, 20M and Marathon. (Because of Covid the 5M and 20M races were cancelled this year) Points are awarded for each race depending on your position within your age group. After the last race in the series the points are totalled and gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded. This year the Men’s Vet 70 Gold medal went to Colin Moody and the Bronze to John Tennant. In the Ladies Vet 50 category the Silver medal went to Sandra Rust.
