Tany’s Dell Paige wins Captain Sir Tom medal for inspiration

AFTER the sad death of Captain Sir Tom Moore, Tany’s Dell pupils designed a Captain Sir Tom Moore medal for inspiration.

The ideas of the six winning pupils were merged to create the final design.

This was passed onto Burnt Mill School’s Art Department and they very kindly, made the medal for them.

This would only be awarded to a pupil who inspired others.

A spokesperson said: “We were thrilled to be able to award the first medal to Paige in Year 6.

Paige is a young carer to her mother who is deaf and is increasingly becoming visually impaired.

“We were ‘blown away’ by the care shown by Paige to her mum. She supports her when they go out – she is her eyes and ears.

“Paige is also proficient in British Sign Language, carefully translating for mum so that she can be included in conversations.

“We were so impressed with her, that we have now secured Paige as our whole-school ‘signer’, using her BSL to sign to our deaf pupils in assembly. She is a true inspiration.
