Athletics: Harlow Running Club go wild in the country

HARLOW Running Club competed in the 1st round of the East Herts & West Essex Cross Country League on Sunday morning. The race at Bishops Stortford was over a 5 mile course which was very muddy after recent rain. Bishops Stortford Running Club, Ware Joggers and Saffron Walden Running Club also competed.

There were notable performances in the Ladies race from Lucy Barnes and Terri Wiley who finished 4th and 5th respectively and Rob Lowe was 7th and 1st Vet 50 in the Men’s race. In the team results HRC finished 4th in the Ladies and Men’s races and 4th Overall.

Meanwhile, at the Milton Keynes Winter Half Marathon Mathew Spires finished in 264th place out of 1473 finishers in 1hr 40min 07sec, Kelly Spires was 945th in 2.10.17 in her debut at the distance and Debbie Cooper 1232nd in 2.27.10.

There were parkrun PB runs from Sandra Webber at Harlow in 25.50, Thomas Beales at Waltham Abbey in 22.35 and Helen Barrell at Victoria Dock in 29.27.

At the midweek Olympic Park Chase The Moon 10k Thomas Beales finished in 79th place out of 229 finishers in 48.31, in his debut at the distance, and Sandra Webber was 128th in a PB time of 53.17.
