STAPLE Tye Councillor, Alastair Gunn has expressed relief on behalf of local residents and businesses as Southern Way reopens after a week of disruption.
A burst water main on Monday saw water supplies affected for some residents and Southern Way closed for repairs, with diverted traffic bringing nearby roads to a standstill.
Cllr Gunn said, “Having heard from residents in Staple Tye and local businesses how disruptive the road closure had been for them, I was concerned at suggestions the works might see the closure carry on into next week.
“I got in touch with Affinity Water to press for the road to be reopened as soon as possible and am relieved that temporary traffic lights have been installed to allow the road to at least partially reopen.
“I’m grateful to Affinity and their contractors for working late into the night to get this sorted. I hope to see the road fully reopened as soon as possible.”
