RABBI Shillor of the Harlow Jewish Community has praised the work which has restored the Holocaust Memorial Garden after she was welcomed to the garden by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Russell Perrin. The garden was restored to its former glory ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day which takes place today (27 January 2022).

Councillor Russell Perrin, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “I was delighted to be able to welcome Rabbi Irit Shillor to the restored Holocaust Memorial Garden to show her all the great work that has gone into bringing this wonderful place back to its former glory in time for Holocaust Memorial Day. It really is a wonderful place to visit, and in which to reflect, and I hope the residents of Harlow take some time to come and see it.

“We are working hard to restore pride in our town and improve the way the town’s landscaping is maintained. I am grateful to HTS and Clark’s gardeners for the work and care they have put into this work.

“It is right our community should stand together to remember the darkest hour of humanity, namely the Holocaust. The restoration work means that the garden is now once again a fitting place for residents to remember and reflect on the Holocaust, which we will do as we come together to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day today.”

Following her visit, Rabbi Shillor, said: “Thank you very much for all the work done. It now feels like a very contemplative garden. I am also grateful that the holocaust memorial plaque is also in such excellent condition.”

To commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day, the council will be hosting a virtual service on its YouTube channel, featuring contributions from the Chair and Vice-Chair of the council. This can be viewed at www.youtube.com/harlowcouncil from 5pm.

Pity the local Jewish community could not have restored it rather than hts and volunteers, Perhaps they will now keep it in it's restored state.

Nice to see that this Holocaust Memorial Garden, opened in 2001, has been renovated by Harlow Council using the services of HTS. Let's remember those who have died in genocides and vow to resist intolerance.
