Harlow Labour describe Tory budget proposals as based on “Secrets, Lies and Bribes”

HARLOW Labour councillors allege that the Conservative’s proposed budget is based on “Secrets, Lies and Bribes”.
The allegations were made on Thursday night’s Cabinet meeting.
In the meeting, the Tories put forward their plans for the next financial year (see below).
A number of Labour councillors made it very clear how they felt.
They said they will go into more details at next week’s full council.
Councillor Mike Danvers said that he “feared for Harlow Council’s finances”.
Cllr Chris Vince said: “I have huge concerns about the budget concerned and the long term viability of the council”
But perhaps it was cllr Tony Durcan who was most vocal.
Cllr Durcan said: “All we have heard tonight is secrets, lies and bribes”

Mr Durcan, you are the one using defamatory and insulting language. “Secrets, Lies, Bribes”! What evidence do you have. You and your cronies have been moaning for months that the Tory Council had not cut tax and now they have you react with hysteria. I suspect you did not expect them to do what you couldn’t do in 10 years. Harlow is well rid of you and your shower running the town. I can’t fathom why you are so indignant. Get a grip. If you can’t take it, don’t start it.

Having sat in many council meetings during the last three years I can tell readers that both Conservative and Labour Councillors are just as bad as each other. I would urge readers to watch Harlow Council's youtube channel at the end of next week when the film of next weeks Full Council meeting will be uploaded. Councillors cannot help themselves making sarcastic, snide comments about those on the other side of the political divide. Many of them are quite frankly a disgrace and and are well past there 'sell by date'.

The Conservative's strategy is based on commerciality, according to Russell Perrin. Using HTS to generate revenue is not a new idea (e.g. Labour leader Jon Clempner, but not followed through by his successor). Some councils have had their fingers burned with commercial activities, but I prefer to wait and see rather than being prophets of doom like Councillors Vince and Danvers. However, it is fair to say Mike Danvers has attention to detail and will read long documents, unlike most of his colleagues, so he is well worth listening to regarding an alternative budget.

Durcan’s simulated woke indignation is just a guise to avoid answering the questions. He accuses the Council of Secrets, Lies and Bribes, yet when challenged fails to produce anything substantiate his bizarre claims, alleging that any criticism is ‘bullying’. Does he seriously believe that people will buy this nonsense?
