SFG College students celebrate World Book Day

Education: Secondary / Thu 3rd Mar 2022 at 08:09am

THE health and educational benefits of reading were explained to young people during World Book Day.

Students at Sir Frederick Gibberd College, in Harlow, celebrated the themed event.

The purpose and importance of the day was explained during a special assembly, before students were given an insight into the power of reading for pleasure.

Students were encouraged to think about the health and educational benefits of regular reading.

They also took part in a literary quiz exploring authors, books and genres, and entered a bookmark and book review competition with the best bookmark being printed for the school.

Mizgin Koker, English Key Stage 3 co-ordinator, said: “The celebrations ended with a class discussion of our favourite books, which gave students an opportunity to share some of their favourite stories and authors – further promoting reading for pleasure.

“This is a brilliant way to engage students with books and to celebrate the variety of choices they have.”

Students were given a National Book Token to exchange for a free book in local bookstores.
