Harlow Council set up public donation centre

News / Wed 9th Mar 2022 am31 09:12am

A PUBLIC donation point collecting humanitarian aid for the people of Ukraine has opened at Harlow Civic Centre.

The point is currently open from Monday to Friday between 10am to 6pm throughout the month of March 2022. Items cannot be accepted outside of the opening times.

The council is working with organisations to get aid to Ukrainian people via Poland and Romania. As well as donations of items there are lots of other ways that residents can help those directly affected by the ongoing conflict. A full list of help can be found on the council’s website: https://www.harlow.gov.uk/community/helping-ukraine

Attending the official launch of the point was the Chair of Harlow Council, Councillor Clive Souter, Councillor Russell Perrin, Leader of the Council and volunteer Elena Hardware who drop off donations today which she had been taking in at home.

Councillor Russell Perrin, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “We have set up this point in response to demand from residents wishing to make donations to help those impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. We have already seen a local polish shop and other organisations and individuals doing their bit to help and we want to extend that support further and help get much-needed humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.

“I know as individuals we are powerless to stop the horrific events, which continue to unfold in Ukraine, but as a town we are showing our support and that we care through donations, and I am proud our how our residents and organisations have responded. I would also like to thank the Council staff who have been working hard to establish the donation point.”
