PUPILS at Roydon Primary Academy, in Roydon, devoted a week to books in celebration of World Book Day.
They went to school dressed as their favourite book character or wearing their pyjamas, read every afternoon and decorated their classroom doors in the style of their favourite books.
Children were also challenged to design a cover for their favourite book and take part in a week-long readathon.
Anna Myatt, head of school, said: “World Book Day is a fabulous opportunity to celebrate our love of books and reading.
“Reading for pleasure has long been shown to improve a child’s performance in school, but the benefits stretch far beyond academic success.
“We spread activities across the week because it is such an important part of improving wellbeing and can often provide a much-needed escape from everyday life. Even more important for the children in these challenging times.”
