Pear Tree Mead pupils learn how to become mental health champions

Education / Fri 11th Mar 2022 at 08:27am

KEY Stage Two Pupils at Pear Tree Mead Academy have been learning how to become Mental Health Champions.

All the children took part in 12 online sessions with Mrs Peden, Headteacher and a company called One Goal. They learnt about championing their own and each other’s mental health, learning 6 ways to help us all have a positive mental health.   All the children in KS2 are now wearing their champions badges with pride.

Thirty-five children were then selected to take part in an extra workshop to learn even more strategies and develop their role as well-being champions across the school.

Mrs Martin who oversees the champions said that she had really enjoyed the workshop and that the children had some great ideas of how to use the strategies to help themselves and others.  The team are now looking at introducing some calm areas for the playground for children to use.

It was a pleasure training the pupils in Pear Tree Mead as Mental Health Champions! The children did fantastic and really impressed us with their enthusiasm and effort! We look forward to continuing to support the pupils and the staff in championing mental health and wellbeing across the school community.
