THE GIBBERD Gallery is delighted to welcome back school groups.

A spokesperson said: “As we slowly open up after two years of lockdowns we were delighted to welcome Hare Street Primary School to the Gibberd Gallery. The whole school have worked on cross curricular projects inspired by 12 female sculptors in Harlow.

“We were delighted to invite artist Jane Ackroyd to meet some of the children and to talk about her sculpture Cat, created when she was a student.

“We were also fortunate that University of Hertfordshire Fine Art Student, Rosie Stevens, started her work experience with the Trust in the week of the school’s visits. Rosie enjoyed her opportunities to introduce Cat to the children”.

Rosie said “it was really great meeting and working with Jane, as someone who is interested in sculpture myself, meeting Jane and gaining an insight into how Cat was made was really helpful to me in both my studies in fine art and my individual art practice.”

The children had great fun sketching Cat and we are planning to display some of the artworks created by the pupils in one of the Window Galleries next month.

We look forward to welcoming more schools back to the Gallery in the coming months.
