SIR Frederick Gibberd College, in Harlow, is part of the J9 initiative, raising awareness of domestic abuse and supporting victims.
The school’s staff took part in J9 training, an initiative set up in memory of Janine Mundy who was killed by her estranged husband in June 2003 while he was on police bail.
The training session educated staff about early warning signs and how to help support people who may be at risk of domestic violence.
Following the training, Sir Frederick Gibberd displays a J9 sticker which subtly signals there are staff on site who are specially trained and who will offer a safe place and support if someone is suffering from domestic violence.
Cheree Leverington, assistant headteacher, said: “The J9 training enables staff to be equipped in helping and supporting any victim who may seek help and refuge at Sir Frederick Gibberd.
“Following the increased domestic abuse numbers throughout the Covid pandemic, it’s so important that we are able to support anyone in our community who requires it. “We are here to help anyone who needs us.”
I hope this includes trans victims and doesn't become another instance in the single sex spaces debacle.
