Celebrations as Church Langley wins village of the year award

News / Fri 1st Apr 2022 at 05:54am

THERE were celebrations today as Church Langley won Village of the Year award.

The pretty hamlet fought off opposition from around the country to win the much sought after prize.

It was said that the judges were deeply impressed by their “rustic charms” and preservation of tradition village ways such as Morris dancing, jam making and basket weaving.

Bu there has been an element of controversy over a planning application to put in place what has been described as a border crossing with a time limit on how long “people not from the village” can stay there.

YH went down to the village to speak to Mr A.F Day and Mrs April Jones of the Church Langley Village Preservation Society.

You have to love the residents of church Langley they know how to make fun of the continuous joke of being called a village and a great April fool. 🏆

Just hope this is an April Fool joke. If it's not - someone must have been "greasing palms". 😅😅😅. Mind you think some of the inhabitants think they are farmers or country land owners by the amount of 4x4's and trucks, more suited to living in the wilds, are driven by them😅

Honestly, some of the indignant comments that it isn't a village, funnier than the joke!

David's comment, above, is not so fanciful. A few years ago, a friend of mine met a woman from Church Langley who did, indeed, say that she lived in a village near Epping!

I used to live in Church Langley & I loved it I would also love to go back but unfortunately that's not too going to happen. It was the nicest place I have ever lived & the most happyest. The people there were all friendly & not one of them thought they were any better than anyone else a great communitie. It's kept nice & every one helped each other.. everything you needed was there & such nice walks into old Harlow. Great place whether it's a village part of Harlow or Epping...can not fault it if you have ACTUALLY lived there.
