Review: I Know I Know at the Southwark Playhouse

I TOOK a rare trip to London on Friday night and more specifically the Southwark Playhouse to watch local Harlow director Harry Tennison’s latest play, ‘I know, I know, I know’, I am glad I made the journey.
This powerful piece of drama tells the story of two old uni friends car sharing to another friends wedding. What starts as a light hearted trip down memory lane soon leads to some dark revelations about one of the friends. Tennison’s use of the stage and the actors ability to engage the audience and their authenticity made this engaging from the start and left audiences to ponder how they might react in a similar situation. It certainly was a piece of theatre which didn’t pull any punches.
What was particularly fascinating about the story, written by Flora Wilson Brown, was the way two narratives were interwoven, with actor Hannah Khalique Brown performing a monologue while the other two performers Ethan Morehouse and Martha Watson Allpress interacted with one another. At first this seemed strange and took a bit of getting used to but you quite quickly adjusted your hearing to it and the narrative was able to run side by side, enhancing the story telling dramatically.
The play is on next week and worth a watch. Well done Harry and the team!
