Health Minister Sajid Javid visits Harlow and repeats pledge on new hospital
News / Thu 14th Apr 2022 at 01:52pm
THE HEALTH minister, Sajid Javid MP came to Harlow on Thursday morning.
His first stop was a visit to Passmores House, a recovery centre for people aged 18 years and over who are dependent on drugs or alcohol.
Later on, he went to visit Harlow Conservatives and joined them on the campaign trail for the local elections on May 5th.
After his visit to Passmores House, YH spoke to Mr Javid and Harlow MP Robert Halfon about the treatment centre but also took the opportunity to ask about the future of a new hospital for Harlow.
We also addressed comments made by Tory backbencher Michael Fabricant regarding hospital staff having drinks at work.
We also spoke to both MPs about the ongoing controversy surrounding Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Blimey I was correct: Mr. Halfon works hard for Harlow. You heard him say that again today, didn't you? However, remember when we do not see a "new" hospital in Harlow north of 2032 you will know how hard! Mind you I hope he would not be our MP by then. Gone in 2024 if not earlier.
Harlow is a safe Tory seat, thank God! Last thing we need is a Momentum puppet.
Savid Javid - “I can’t tell you where Harlow hospital is in the 40 new hospital programme it is priority for delivery by 2030”. No mention either of the amount of funding or a date as to when will be agreed. I sincerely hope we do get a new hospital but until the Treasury actually agree the funding announcements such this are just announcements.
Why did Robert Halfon (Chair of the Education Select Committee) not take the opportunity to distance himself from the slurs Fabricant threw at teachers ? Do we assume he accepts them ? Bringing the Health Minister to Harlow is clearly absolutely no guarantee that Harlow will get a new hospital . . .no surety of time nor finance. Its all smoke and mirrors .
It’s great to see the commitment Robert has to ensuring the health of harlow is on the highest agenda keep highlighting local needs rob well done !!!

Indeed, well done to Robert Halfon, keeping Harlow on the front burner. The best MP Harlow has ever had.
All those congratulations to robert halfon and the tories…..do we live in the same country? Are you all good with the lies, deceit and waste of tax payers money going on contracts to Tory friends for them not to deliver?? If you are, then you are the problem!
I think our MP all sounds good but it’s getting a start on the new Hospital and I would like to see where it’s going to be one says near the M11.someone else’s says near potter’s street.it’s nice to MP Heath minster come to Harlow.
Sajid javid visits harlow.. yawn! Who cares. They’re all nobs. Tell you what they think you want to hear and do the opposite.
Professional I agree a new build is best, but if we held a referendum and ask the people of Harlow ,I suspect we would get a different answer. I have been canvassing local views and most would prefer the hospital to stay on the current site. To be fair most were concerned about losing a local service and many actually work on the current site and live near by. Either way everyone is frustrated about the complete mis information given by the Tory government and local MP. Not helped by the Tory spin locally. They ask will it ever happen as we’re now looking at 2030 . Legacy or nightmare Rob
Bit late coming to the table Tony, this is just what we found out when residents responded to the question in our residents survey over three years ago. You may recall your former Party Leader was asked where he thought a new hospital should be built but failed to answer the question. It is a pity he and your Party did not did not canvas residents back then and come to the same conclusion ... that is, the hospital was put where it is for very good reason back in 1963 and those reasons have stood the test of time. For most residents in the catchment area, a hospital in Sheering is simply to far away in the event of an emergency, just as would be the case if the Fire Station moved to the edge of town, as envisaged in the Councils new Town Centre Masterplan.
The point am making is that a lot of Harlow residents were assured by the local MP that the deal had been done and we were getting a brand new facility. If you recall they were planning a garden on the roof. We were told an education facility and the mental health trust were looking at relocating. We have now proven that all this was just aspiration and mis information. They haven’t even secured the land. Professional my view is new. Personal I would prefer to keep and rejuvenate. Political I have huge disappointed in the MP and his team for misleading us and annoyed at myself in being sold an untruth. In regard to emergency services I have always been interested in a shared site for police, fire and ambulance services. My view would to redevelop the current police station site and use the land of the old courthouse to design a central emergency services hub. Can’t recall Nicholas if you join the walking consultation I facilitated called Tonys Tour of the town centre,a few years ago. Nearly all the ideas from that opportunity are now embedded into the town centre plan that the Tories pretend to have invented. We set up the strategic partnership to take this forward ,again another plan suddenly re invented by the Tories. Just a lot of Tory spin lead by the MP and his team. Have a nice Easter
I think your tour Tony was before I became involved in local politics. As you say, the Masterplan reflects much of what you and your Party were working on, which only goes to support what we hear on the doorstep, we don't vote because whoever you vote for you get the same. The Harlow Alliance Party does not share the same vision of both main Parties. Yours lacks ambition and vision, simply replacing the retail space with more of the same except that there will be great big flat blocks on top of it and hoping that more cafes and restaurants will attract more visitors. We want to see a much larger theatre which becomes a regional player for entertainment, an exhibition centre to showcase Harlow and providing an indoor venue for things like toy fairs, vintage car shows, stamp fairs, Christmas fairs, food fairs etc, a live music venue and much more. Spending millions on a new bus terminus will do nothing to attract more visitors, neither will creating some sort of cultural square in front of the Playhouse. We want to see Broadwalk roofed over and a lot more besides.
