Athletics: Barnes storms and Moody is magnificent

HARLOW Running and Tri Club had 12 members competing at the Witham 10 Mile race which also doubled as the Essex 10 Mile Championships. Lucy Barnes had a fantastic debut at the distance by finishing in 26th place out of 326 finishers and 1st Female in a time of 1hr 00min 52sec. This was a Senior Female Club Record which has stood since 1990. This would also have earned Lucy an Essex Gold Medal but she failed to  register in time for the Championships!

Harlow did manage to gain two medals however. Colin Moody finished in 184th place and 2nd Vet 70 in 1.21.14 to win the Vet 70 Silver Medal and this time was also a new Vet 70 Club Record. John Tennant was 218th in 1.24.11 and 3rd Vet 70 to win the Vet 70 Bronze Medal. Also running were Kirk Crudgington 64th in 1.07.05(Debut), Lex Ellington 67th in 1.07.25(PB), Catherine Ridge 103rd in 1.11.58(PB), Kerry Mavris 164th in 1.18.35(PB), Chris Arnell 175th in 1.19.59(PB), Terri Wiley 177th in 1.20.17(Debut), Paige Bircham 178th in 1.20.18(Debut), Alan Wellbelove 287th in 1.37.44 and Robert Peters 294th in 1.39.34(Debut).       


Meanwhile, at the Vitality London 10,000 Metres Martin Westley finished in 478th place out of 13,533 finishers in an excellent 38.06. He was followed home by Jon Waight 1083rd in 41.47(PB), Tom Beales 1468th in 43.33(PB), Daz Red 2590th in 47.21(Debut), Darren Rautenbach 4554th in 52.15, Michelle Sheridan 4622nd in 52.25(PB), Sandra Westgate 6126th in 55.44, Mark Bentley 6128th in 55.45, Lee Daniels 6998th in 57.33(Debut), Mel Harris 9867th in 1.04.45, David Nicholas 12,833rd in 1.20.41 and Pat O’Flaherty 13,304 in 1.31.05(Debut).

At the Westminster Mile Deborah Pomphret finished in 216th place out of 380 finishers in 7.38.

Laura Prime doubled up at the weekend. On Sunday she ran the Milton Keynes Rocket 5k, finishing in 323rd place out of 852 finishers in 25.51. Then on Bank Holiday Monday she completed the Milton Keynes Marathon, finishing in 567th place out of 1350 finishers in 3.58.56. Also running were Martyn Coulter 267th in 3.31.17 and Claire Morris 1080th in 4.56.54 in her debut at the distance.

At the Lee Valley Velo Park 10k Robin Lozeau was 45th out of 60 finishers and 1st Vet 65 in 1.01.53.

Several Harlow Triathletes were in action at the weekend in the Saffron Walden Sprint Triathlon (400m swim, 22.5k bike, 5k run). Ben Usher finished in 16th place out of 86 finishers in 1.18.09, Terri Wiley 22nd and 2nd Senior Female in 1.20.42, Ryan Smith 25th in 1.22.45, Gail Nichols 41st and 3rd Female Vet 40 in 1.30.22, Dominic Emery 43rd in 1.31.17, Steve Warren 58th in 1.37.31 and Helen Barrell 63rd in 1.41.05.

At the Sprint Aquabike (400m swim, 22.5k bike) Louise Kedge finished 5th out of 8 finishers and 1st Female in 51.45. 

Luella Dixon finished the Walmer and Deal Seafront parkrun in 118th place out of 188 finishers in a PB time of 29.36.

What a great round up of results showing record breakers across all ages. Well done to you all. The enthusiasm felt at this club is infectious! Whether you’re taking part as an athlete or volunteer you are guaranteed 100% support. I am proud to belong to such a great organisation!
