Harlow residents question why Essex Highway lorries park for hours on their street: “Shouldn’t they be fixing potholes?”

ESSEX County Council has pledged to look into why a number of their highways lorries park up on a quiet Harlow road for hours on end.
From Sumners to Old Harlow, from Maddox Road to Haydens Road, the issue of potholes and highway maintenance in general has been a major topic for the residents of Harlow.
A few weeks ago, residents in a quiet street in Potter Street contacted YourHarlow to express their concerns over Essex Highway lorries in their street.
The resident, who did not wish to be named told YH. “Our street is full of potholes. Meanwhile, at least twice a week, Essex Highways lorries park up for hours on end. Surely, they should be our filing the thousands of potholes in Harlow?”
The resident told YH that they had been doing this for over eighteen months.
YH went up to Church Road on Tuesday May 3rd. The Essex Highways lorry arrived at just after noon and left just before 4pm.
Of course, there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why the lorries park up. Soo we asked Essex County Council.
A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: “We will look into this matter to investigate the potential reasons as to why one of our vehicles may have had the need to be parked at this particular location.”
The day after the Harlow Conservatives took over the running of Harlow Council, they invited the portfolio holder for Highways at Essex County Council to discuss the state of Harlow’s roads.
Many may say that a year later, they are no better.
Many may wonder if lorries parked up for hours on end is part of the problem or part of the solution. Residents, council tax payers and road users may also wonder how many other lorries are parked around Harlow and Essex?
If you do see any, let us know at [email protected]
We have passed on this information to the leader of Harlow Council, cllr Russell Perrin.
Job and knock then skive off for a while before returning to yard to clock off, Maybe.
There is very often an HTS van parked at Potter Street end of Kingsdon Lane too. As you say maybe a perfectly reasonable explanation, and the guy maybe on call, but is there parts of most days.
This seems to be the job description of most companies employees when it comes to work on anything Especially where works involved around Harlow as well as other places I expect. I thought it was just me seeing HTS vans etc parked up in out of the way hidden car parks (every day at all different times) on phones, fag breaks etc one hell of a tea break lunch break etc then time to clock off & given a wage to do so, no wonder people moan nag & complain, the rest of us are obviously in the wrong jobs they should all be on a time watch programme the same as the poor grass cutting guy who does work dam hard where I live & makes a good job whilst others at HTS are having a kip in the vans parked up, been going on for years & even more so since Covid, now they don't want to work at all but still want to get paid!! The councils promising things that don't materialise as well as roads, paths pot hole extruding man hole covers growing like giant Walt's out of pathments, nothing done about them no matter how many times reported. Harlow is a waste of time & the people who are suppose to upkeep it are too.
This goes on all the time not just Harlow but its all down to a comfort zone that these people have! you will probably find that their bosses are doing this as well! The roads are a complete and utter disgrace and I feel its time for the Rod Stewart gand IE a team of people with Rod Stewart fancy dress travelling around harlow fixing the roads! The criteria for fixing the roads has changed with Highways due to a certain Harlow essex County councillor EJ the hole has to be 2" deep now before being considered! I say beware of the dust as most of the tarmac dust contains Silica and that causes cancer!
Potter street is becoming a car park along the common of highways vehicles making it difficult to see oncoming traffic
They were parked along partridge Road 2 weeks ago. Holes had some ashfelt put in, but not enough to fill them properly.
