Harlow residents encouraged to have Covid-19 vaccine ahead of summer holidays

Health / Tue 7th Jun 2022 at 11:36am

DIRECTOR of Public Health in Essex, Lucy Wightman, is encouraging residents who haven’t had the Covid-19 vaccine to get it as soon as possible and avoid potentially missing out on holidays and other special events due to the virus.

The message comes as evidence shows how immunity from Covid-19 can decrease over time following the vaccine.

With thousands of people looking forward to trips and events this summer, including the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend, the vaccine continues to offer the best possible chance of reducing significant illness and ensuring plans can go ahead.

Ms Wightman, said: “While it might feel like Covid-19 has gone away, this is sadly not the case and vaccination remains one of the best defences against it. I cannot recommend it highly enough, particularly if you’re looking forward to a holiday or another event this year.

“I would also urge anyone who is eligible for the fourth dose to have it. This has been shown to significantly increase the body’s immune defences beyond the peak of the third dose. It is important to keep your immunity topped up, especially if you are older or more vulnerable. The vaccine offers the best chance of doing that.”

While travel guidelines can differ between countries, proof of Covid-19 vaccination status (or exemption) is a requirement for many.

Some countries also require travellers to demonstrate that they have received their primary course of a Covid-19 approved vaccination or booster within a certain time period. Residents should carefully check all requirements before travelling.

Although there are no longer legal restrictions in place, the Government has issued guidance to reduce the risk of catching and spreading Covid-19, which Essex residents are still encouraged to follow.

How is it sad? @Mike please enlighten us. Everyone in this country (and should be in the world) is entitled to choose what they put in their body. I haven't had the vaccine and I'm not preaching to everyone about it. Humans individually are always trying to push their opinions on everyone else instead of respecting different lenses to look at something. If you have had it great for you! If you are thinking about it great for you! and if you don't want it great for you!

No thanks

I’m not anti vax. I’ve had every other vaccine that has been trialled and around for years. But this 1 is a no for me. Not enough long term safety data so I choose not to have it. Agree with Benjamin. If you want it have it.. if you don’t, then don’t. No one can dictate to others what they should Or shouldn’t put in their Bodies. Like I said before my other message was deleted, being vaccinated doesn’t stop you catching or spreading it.

Fully in agreement with No Thanks. Not anti vax, just not ready to put his one into my body. I think the original comment (now deleted) was more about people can still.travel abroad without the vax and shouldn't feel pressurised into having a vax for travel reasons.

Most of the planet isn't enough testing for you no thanks then, the vaccine reduces your chances of being seriously ill significantly, it was said you're more likely to have complications from taking aspirin than you are from having the jab.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree Mike. Each to their own. There will be many people with your opinion and also many who think the same as me. I don’t take aspirin or this vaccine so lucky me with no complications to both then ay. Like I said before.. I’m not anti vax and not telling people to not have the jab.. but for me.. it’s not for me. I was fine without the jab when I had covid.. so someone who wants my dose can have it. No one should be pressured to have it and made to feel bad.
