AS life becomes a little more normal a new facility called Harlow Town Cares was launched on June 11^th.

Free for anyone to attend and located at Passmores Academy, the initiative will bring together people of all ages, gender or persuasion, giving them the opportunity to connect with others over a cup of tea or coffee in a friendly safe environment, offering support during these very difficult times. With the cost of living being so high, the terrible Ukraine war and having experienced the pandemic, many people are feeling lonely, anxious, isolated and displaced. We all know that talking together helps to improve mental health.

The aim of Harlow Town Cares is to open a facility weekly, every Saturday afternoon from 12.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. Where anyone can pop in for a cup of tea or coffee and feel free to socialise and savour the opportunity to enjoy the company of other people who are willing to listen and talk. 

Passmores Academy has gifted Harlow Town Cares the perfect location. It has a lovely spacious light communal gathering reception area, or “heartspace” at the centre. Furnished with tables and chairs with a bright modern feeling, creating a lovely atmosphere for everyone to be in. Special thanks to Sheila Westbrook PA to Co – Principles for her help and support.

The project has the backing of local MP Robert Halfon who has been extremely helpful together with his assistant Anna Taylor in bringing this project to fruition. 

Tea and coffee making refreshments/supplies will be gifted by Tesco Edinburgh Way -organised by

Ellen Baker. Trained, responsible volunteers will ensure that the Harlow Town Cares project is run smoothly, maintaining a friendly, warm and comfortable atmosphere.

Harlow Town Cares is very grateful to everyone who has gifted their time, sundries and location.

This is an ideal opportunity for anyone at all who feels they would like to connect with other local people within a safe and friendly environment. 

Local resident Susan James whose experience as a Samaritan volunteer inspired her to create this facility to encourage people to talk freely together to improve our mental health and wellbeing. Susan really hopes that the same facility will become available in other locations across the Country.
