Supporters preparing for St Clare Hospice “Step-Up” challenge

Charity / Sat 18th Jun 2022 pm30 12:19pm

SUPPORTERS are preparing to ‘Step Up’ for St Clare as part of a month-long sponsored step challenge taking place to raise funds for the West Essex and East Hertfordshire charity, St Clare Hospice.

The challenge asks participants to walk 10,000 steps every day, for the whole month of July, the same number of steps as a St Clare Hospice nurse walks on an average shift. Challengers will be collecting sponsorship for their 310,000 total step challenge, which they can complete individually or as part of a team.

Amongst the supporters signed up to ‘Step Up’ for St Clare is 27 year old, Lottie Stock. Commenting on her upcoming challenge, Lottie said:

“I can’t wait to get started on my Step Up challenge! Walking 10,000 steps a day for the whole of July will be a great way to get fit and raise money for my local hospice at the same time. I know St Clare do so much to help local families when they need it most, so whatever I can raise for them will be worth it.”

“I’ll be doing most of my steps on my daily dog walks with my French bulldog, called Bear, so he’ll be benefiting from the extra exercise too, and keeping me company!”

Leading the ‘Step Up’ campaign is St Clare Hospice’s Challenges and Events Fundraiser, Dani De’ath, who said: “We’re inviting people across our local area to Step Up this July and take on our sponsored step challenge to raise funds to help their local hospice to care for more families in your area. You can do the challenge alone or with a team, supporting each other to reach your goal. Whether you decide to walk, swim, or run your steps is completely up to you!”

‘Step Up’ is free to enter, and individuals will receive a St Clare t-shirt. Participants are just asked to commit to fundraise as much as possible through sponsorship – by setting up an online fundraising page or collecting sponsorship offline.

You can sign up for the challenge even if we are already part-way into the month of July. You can simply extend your challenge into the next month!

Notes to editors:

St Clare Hospice is a charity providing specialist palliative care for people living with terminal or life-limiting illnesses across West Essex and East Herts border. We care for patients and their families, providing physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual support, and ensuring they have timely access to skilled, compassionate and sensitive care in a place of their choice. Our services are free of charge to those who need our care, but cost over £5 million a year to run. With limited NHS funding we need to fundraise the majority of this each year through donations and other voluntary sources.
