Harlow runners stride out for medals in Chelmsford

HARLOW Running and Tri Club fielded 22 runners at the Springfield Striders Friday Night 5 (miles) at Pleshey, near Chelmsford, which also doubled as the Essex County 5 Mile Championships. Harlow had a productive evening, collecting five Essex Medals, a club record and several PBs despite the undulating course.

First home was Rob Lowe in 33rd place out of 227 finishers and 3rd Vet 50 to win the Essex Bronze Medal in his age category in an Excellent time of 29min 23sec. John Tennant finished in 161st place and 1st Vet 70 to win the Vet 70 Gold Medal in 39.31 and Colin Moody was 203rd in 46.40 to win the Vet 70 Silver Medal in 46.40. Joanne Mills finished in 220th place and 1st Female Vet 70 to win the Female Vet 70 Gold Medal in 50.04 and Paulene Galoppi was 226 and 2nd Female Vet 70 to win the Female Vet 70 Silver Medal in 57.21. Terri Wiley was first Harlow female in 90th place in a superb 33.25 which was a PB and 5 Mile Female Senior Club Record. Terri also combined with Catherine Ridge and Sandi Rust to finish 3rd Female Team and win the Female Team Bronze medal. Their were also PB runs from Kirk Crudgington, Martyn Coulter, Lex Ellington and 6Tracy Stratford.

Meanwhile, at last week’s St Albans Summer Solstice 10k Sean Flynn finished in 181st place out of 489 finishers in 51.04. 

Sean was also in action at the Welwyn 10k on Sunday, finishing in 122nd place out of 355 finishers in 50.58. Also running were Selina Morgan 217th in a PB time of 58.46 and Charleen Tillotson 225th in 59.51, also a PB. 

Distance runner Laura Prime ran the Summer Ready Run at Brandon Country Park, Suffolk, a full 26.2 mile marathon finishing in 4th place out of 14 finishers and 1st Female in 4hrs 33min 13sec which is a new Female Course Record.

Completing an even greater distance was Karen Greenall at the Race To The Tower race. This consists of two Ultra races over two days along the Cotswold Way. On day one Karen ran 26.5 miles in an exhuasting 9hrs 17min 02sec and then on day 2 another 27 miles in 9.57.20.  

Martyn Coulter equaled his 5k PB on Saturday morning at the Hackney Marshes parkrun, finishing in 9th place out of 280 finishers in 18.47.

Harlow triathletes were also in action at the weekend.

At the Norwich Sprint Distance Triathlon League Championship race (Swim 750m, Bike 20km, Run 5km) Gail Nicholls finished in 48th place out of 182 finishers and 2nd Female Vet 50 in 1.20.50.

At the Eaton Dorney Olympic Distance Triathlon (Swim 1500m, Bike 40km, Run 10km), at the 2012 London Olympic Venue, Alison Wilkinson finished in 3.15.19.  

At the same venue in the Sprint Tri (750m swim, 21,2k bike, 5k run) Suzie Middleton was 48th out of 100 finishers in 1.25.46.

In a late result from the previous weekend, at the Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon, at Plymouth, Martin Westley finished in 48th place out 1802 finishers in 1.24.31 and Liz Roberts was 1263rd in a PB time of 2.15.19
