Athletics: Harlow Running Club seal promotion

HARLOW Running and Tri Club competed in the last round of the Scotts Travel Mid Week Road Race Division 3 last week. Harlow were lying in 2nd place and in line for promotion prior to this race, and they maintained that position with a magnificent performance on the undulating 10k course, hosted by Royston Runners.

The Ladies team finished 1st on the night and 2nd after the 4 races. The Men were 3rd on the night and 3rd after 4 races. Overall the combined team finished 3rd on the night but 2nd after 4 races to gain promotion to division 2. The Men’s Vets Team finished in 1st place.    
Lucy Barnes was once again the star performer on the night by finishing 1st Female out of 84 finishers in a fantastic 38min 14sec. She was followed by Catherine Ridge in 4th place and 2nd Female Vet 35 in a PB time of 43.04, Fieke Blackwell 10th in 46.32 and Sandra Rust 11th and 2nd Female Vet 45 in 46.33. There were also PBs from Michelle Sheridan, Selina Morgan, Charleen Tillotson and Joanne Mills was 2nd Female Vet 65.        

First home for the Men’s team was Rob Lowe in 11th place out of 127 finishers and 1st Vet 50 in a superb 36.47. Martin Westley was 16th in 38.47, Martyn Coulter 17th in 39.02 and Kirk Crudgington 18th in a PB time of 39.12. There were also PBs from Michael Houlihan, Stephen Mayo, Andrew Smith and John Tennant was 2nd Vet 70.

Meanwhile, Harlow were well represented at the Ware Festival of Running on Sunday morning, with 10 mile and 10k options to run.

In the 10 mile race Mathew Spires finished in 27th place out of 260 finishers in 1hr 12min 49sec, Chris Arnell was 79th in 1.21.42 and Linda Helm-Manley 89th in 1.23.56 in her debut at the distance. There were PB runs from Steve Wright and Michelle Sheridan.

In the 10k race Chris Mella finished in 27th place out of 180 finishers in 48.27, in his debut at the distance, Tracy Stratford was 54th in 52.10 and Karen Greenall 134th in 1.03.05. 

At the Leeds 10k Dave Goosetree finished in 1073rd place out of 3022 finishers in a PB time of 53.34.

At the Orion Forest 5 on Saturday morning, a five mile trail race through Epping Forest at Chingford, Martyn Coulter was 8th from 84 finishers in 31.26, Martin Westley 12th in 31.48, Michelle Sheridan 68th in 45.43 and Liz Roberts 80th in 53.46.    

Alan Wellbelove ran his first 15 mile race at the off road Bewl 15, on the Sussex/Kent border, finishing in 388th place out of 439 finishers in 3.06.40. 

Peter Berry completed the Cholmondeley Middle Distance Triathlon (Half-Ironman) at Cheshire (swim 1.9k, bike 90k, run 21k) finishing in 54th place out of 57 finishers in 7.43.03.  

Claire Carter completed the Paddle Swim Classics Swimtrek, a  1.5km open water swim at Brighton finishing in 71st place out of 78 finishers in 39.10.
