When is a pothole not a pothole?

General / Wed 6th Jul 2022 am31 08:47am

TODDBROOK councillor Tony Edwards resigned from the Harlow Council Highways Panel recently.

Cllr Edwards was frustrated at the lack of progress in addressing issues such as First Avenue at Momples Road as well as the North Gate roundabout on Fourth Avenue.

However, he was also perplexed at the approach to the continuing problem with potholes.

Cllr Edwards was told that the potholes in Momples Road (probably the worst road in Harlow) are not potholes but in fact suffering from delamination.

We took this to mean that it would only be a pothole if there was a hole in the original concrete road.

YH spoke to cllr Edwards down on Momples Road.

Interesting that these issues have existed for years as Cllr Edwards mentions in his interview. The Conservatives have been in administration for just over one year and suddenly these problems are suddenly of paramount importance. Doesn’t this rather beg the question as to what action did the previous Labour administration, of which Cllr Edwards was a member, take during their decade in office?

As far as I can see cllr Edwards is the only person trying to get something done regarding these roads. Thank you Mr Edwards for trying to help. Momples Road is disgusting alot worse further down than was shown

My partner and myself had to administer first aid to an elderly gentleman who fell in a crater on momples Road recently. An ambulance had to be called for him and he suffered a fit whilst we were helping him. I have taken a photo of this appalling road and the conditions this poor man was lying in. Disgusting the state of these roads and paths and affecting health and safety now, not just vehicles.

Momples road is a joke. Whatever they want to call it, the problem still continues. What is it going to take for the roads in this town to get sorted.

Cllr Leppard 1. You know full well that Roads are a Essex County Council responsibility (where the Conservatives have been in power for years.) 2. That the Harlow Local Highways panel is an Essex County Council Committee on which the four County Councillors and 3 District Councillors sit. Terms of reference https://moderngov.harlow.gov.uk/mgCommitteeDetails.aspx?ID=146 And 4. you and your colleagues also know that I have been raisings these issues for years in both full the Council and Highways Panel meetings. So stop trying to mislead the public and instead put some pressure on your Conservative County Councillor colleagues Garnett, Hardware, Johnson and Souter to sort these matters out.

We’ll said Tony. The Barlow tories know very well that the issue is entirely their responsibility but our County Councillors have failed time and time again to achieve any action from Essex County Council to repair the decaying mess of our roads. They’ve now appointed a district councillor with special responsibility for roads. What a poison chalice they’ve handed to Cllr ‘pothole’ LeMay!

I honestly feel the need to get Rod Stewart involved as his road has been repaired now due to his ferrari getting damaged lol! However I wonder what would happen if during one night a mysterious tarmac god arrived from heaven and filled the holes! I bet I know and that would be the council or even highways if you can awake them from their slumber in their trucks would panik and say! you cannot do that just like they did to the poor workers on rivermead industrial area who chipped in and tarmaced a waste piece of ground only for the council to come along and fence it off until they could fit a parking meter! Momples road is a disgrace and whetehr its highways or even council who the response falls with should hold their heads in shame! The road should be fenced off and and closed as its a danger to residents as well as cars! so far this year we have had 4 cars on their roofs along momples road as well as several cars written off by cars crashing into them while parked Close the road its a danger!

The whole of Harlow roads are a disgrace. I have a chunk of rubber out of my tyre where it was hit the pot hole or car coming the over direction. Someone needs to sort these roads out not just fill odd hole as the filling comes out again after a few weeks

Tony Edwards, Must feel like you have been banging your head against a wall for years but it is not just the potholes and road surfaces that are extremely dangerous but also the lighting bollards and road signage that are being neglected all over the town.

It is a sad day when a Councillor like Tony Edwards calls it a day from his roll on the Highways Panel, frustrated by the lack of street maintenance in Harlow. I am afraid that about 60 to 70% of residents had already given up on politics and politicians by not voting in the recent local elections. I am afraid that until such time as those who do not vote realise that nothing will change, things won't change. This leaves activists either to the right or left of the political divide to take control of Councils who then fail to put the best interests of the residents of the town at the front of what they do. (Stort Valley comes to mind).

Right our road is concrete with pot holes so big a baby could bath in . I wonder if the council will pay for new wheels, suspension and anything else on my car as we can no longer miss these holes out they are that big . I pay my taxes I have my car serviced and Mot every year . I try to go around these hole but no longer can .
