Hear Essex’s top youth orchestra (for free!)

MUSIC lovers can enjoy an evening of great orchestral classics performed by the Essex Youth Orchestra and Essex Young People’s Orchestra, including Stravinsky’s Firebird, Bizet’s Carmen Suites and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
In addition, this evening will host the premiere of Essex born composer Chester Tribley’s new work Restoration, which was commissioned by Essex County Council and the Essex Climate Action Commission.
The concert is free and there is no need to book. It takes place on Friday 12 August at 7.30pm, Saffron Hall, Saffron Walden, CB11 4UH.
Peter Lovell, Head of Essex Music Service, said: “This free concert not only offers our young musicians the chance to perform some fantastic repertoire but also presents an opportunity for other young musicians to come and experience the joy of live music.”
Join Essex’s top youth orchestra
Become a member of Essex’s top orchestra – Essex Youth Orchestra (EYO). Young orchestral musicians of Grade 7 and above are invited to audition for the EYO.
Auditions are being held on Sunday 4 September at Chelmsford County High School
Tony Hougham, Principal Bass for the Royal Opera House, will lead a workshop where young musicians will learn how to prepare and present for auditions.
At the end of the day, players will perform to the audition panel with the aim of gaining a place in the prestigious youth orchestra.
Beverley Heard, Ensembles Officer, said: “It is a great opportunity for any young musician to learn how to audition well, in any situation, whether that is for an orchestra audition or for entry to a Music Conservatoire.”
