ADULT education provider, ACL Essex, is launching a new range of supported learning courses to help people with learning disabilities and/or autism to build their confidence, improve quality of life, and enter the workplace.
ACL Essex sites across the county will be rolling out the courses; ‘Learn to Love English and Maths’ is being offered most widely and the course aims to develop basic numeracy and literacy skills to prepare people with learning disabilities for the workplace.
Creative courses are also on offer such as cookery or jewellery making. In Colchester, the Mercury Theatre will be running a special ‘Performance Skills’ course that runs for 36 weeks.
For those looking for a career in construction, car valeting or retail, there is a selection of courses to help build the right skills and get your foot on the career ladder. Learners with an ambition to start up their own creative business can enrol in the ‘Running a Creative Business’ course, while people looking to improve their customer service and culinary skills can join the ‘Employability – Café’ course. A range of digital skills courses will also be on offer to build confidence with all types of technology.
Christian Norman, VP Curriculum & Learning at ACL, champions the supported learning courses on offer at ACL Essex. He says: “At ACL Essex, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to follow the career they desire. Our team of highly trained teachers are dedicated to supporting each learner to achieve their personal goals.”
The new courses start from September, with enrolment taking place throughout the Summer into the new academic year.
ACL Essex offers support to help learners start and stay in learning, if they have a recognised need, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, mental health, anxiety, processing, sight and hearing difficulties, mobility, learning difficulties, ASD etc.
