Harlow Labour: “Like many residents of our town, I remain sceptical if Harlow will ever get the new hospital

Health / Sat 13th Aug 2022 at 10:58am

THE LEADER of the Harlow Labour group has continued to express his concerns over delays to the building of a new hospital for Harlow residents.

Councillor Chris Vince said: “At a recent Council meeting I asked the leader of the Conservative group and council leader whether he had any confidence that Harlow would get the new hospital that Harlow’s Conservative MP has spent a number of years, and at least two General Elections, promising.

My concerns came from the fact that the projection for when the building will begin has been put back by four years to 2028 and that the chief executive of Princess Alexandra Hospital, Lance McCarthy, recently told YourHarlow that their business plan had yet to be approved by Government.

“The leader of the Conservative group stated that the recent government white paper gave assurances that Harlow would get it’s new hospital. I wonder whether it’s white flags that might be being brandished around rather than white papers with the recent announcement that the current projection is for a massive £250m increase in cost due to the delays, delays already predicted before the pandemic.

This cost is bound to increase again and again for every year that rolls by with no construction taking place.

“Like many residents of our town, I remain sceptical if Harlow will ever get the new hospital and I am sure many residents will feel let down by the Conservative MP who made this a major election pledge. Perhaps its time for Mr Halfon to come clean and admit he has misled the people who voted for him.

“Meanwhile we see that the current hospital is fit to burst, with nurses and Doctor’s run off their feet. Clearly Harlow, along with the entire country needs a change, and not just a new Conservative Prime Minister who will only parrot the same failed lines”.

Chris, most people will already know that the hospital has been delayed. I don't think that crying wolf time and time again adds anything for labour. Other election promises have been broken, notably the pension triple lock, tax reductions and Brexit benefits. I would much rather see that labour have put in place a credible parliamentary candidate

No one actually believed there would be a new hospital in the first place, right..?

We need to remember we don’t need a new hospital just because the population is increasing we need it because the current site in parts are unfit ,unsafe and dangerous. How many more temporary buildings can we cope with. The town has been lied to for years mainly by the local MP who has promised everything and delivered nothing. Perhaps we need to call for a town wide demonstration not only to show support to the NHS staff but a clear message enough is enough it’s time to deliver.

I have said it before and will say it again. If the promised new hospital is not built, or even if it is delayed, then the plans for all the new developments must be put on hold until it is built. It is madness to have an increased population (as most of the new developments will be housing people from out of town) and not have the infrastructure in place first. But it will fall on deaf ears as the planners have not and will not listen to the town's residents.

Come on this was never on the cards!! Too much is being spent on adding to PAH. Also there are too many fingers in the pie(s)!!!

I agree with L Lawrence and Charlie, not just town residents, PAH covers Epping, North Weald and Thornwood where there are thousands of new houses in the pipeline. PAH can't cope now and according to the local press it was going to close once the 'new' hospital, no bigger than PAH, was finished. I'm not a genius but even I can see it's not going to work, it's not brain surgery. No one seems to plan population, and inferstructure when planning new estates!!

Another boost personal profile post for Cllr Vince telling us nothing that we didn't already know about PAH. Cllr Tony Durcan had something more intelligent to say about PAH so maybe Cllr Vince should leave the NHS narrative to Durcan

If you vote for me, I will continue to ensure the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, unlike our current incumbent that is always manoeuvring to prevent this from happening.

Chris Vince is permanently whinging about things neither he nor the Council Administration can directly influence. It is all a smokescreen to cover Harlow Labour’s decade of neglect and incompetence and his current lack of any plan for the town. People are not not so dumb as to be taken in with this shallow nonsense.
