Cricket: Harlow cricketer Ben Yeats takes on Essex
Cricket / Fri 19th Aug 2022 am31 11:12am
FOLLOWING an late injury call up on Monday, Harlow’s Ben Yeats was selected to represent the Club Cricket Conference (CCC) representative team in a 3 day fixture against Essex 2nd XI starting today at Bishop Stortford CC.
The CCC side is drawn from the top league players across Essex, Middlesex, Kent and the home counties with many of todays side already being full Minor Counties players. The opposition was the current Essex Second XI made up of many players from the Essex Premier League.
CCC were asked to bat first on a rain affected day with Ben going in at number 6 and having to face Ben Allison bowling in excess of 80mph as he warmed up with overs under the belt before he plays for the full Essex side tomorrow against Yorkshire.
Ben was looking increasingly confident and had just struck his first boundary when he was adjudged out caught behind for 7, with video later appearing to confirm the initial suspicion that the ball had struck his helmet rather than bat or gloves.
With an eye on the weather tomorrow and distinct possibility of no play the CCC declared on 220-6 with Zac Fagg (Sandwich Town CC) top scoring with 59. In reply Essex were 26-1 at the close with Bailey Wightman (Tunbridge Wells CC) claiming the wicket of Joe McGregor (Colchester) just prior to the scheduled close of play.
Well done Ben well deserved playing for the ( CCC ) and well done getting to 1000 runs
