Statement from Harlow Council: “We have become aware of a health and safety issue regarding the steps at the Staple Tye splash park. To mitigate risk to the public, the steps and the immediate area surrounding them at the splash park will be fenced off from tomorrow. Attendants are making users aware of the problem as they arrive.
The preventative actions taken are about making sure residents and their families can continue to enjoy the splash park safely for the rest of what will be an extended summer season.
The splash park will remain open until Saturday 10 September, after which a permanent solution will be introduced to deal with the health and safety issue that has arisen.
You just couldn't make it up. Designers/installers should have been scrutinised properly. after all steps into pools have been around for years!
What about the metal pole in the middle of the picture. Someone could slip on the wet ground and smash into it. Also shouldn’t users be made to wear goggles to prevent getting water sprayed in their eyes. These splash parks are clearly death traps!
