St Elizabeth’s: MP writes to minister seeking help over closure of care home

HERTFORD and Stortford MP Julie Marson has written to the Care Minister asking her if she can help St Elizabeth’s in Much Hadham as the home faces closure.
Mrs Marson has contacted Gillian Keegan about the facility that supports children and adults from across the UK who have epilepsy and other complex medical conditions.
The charity that runs the home said it would close this autumn after it was placed under special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and rated inadequate.
However, the closure has been postponed subject to a consultation with families and there will be an appeal against the CQC’s formal notice to cancel the home’s registration.
Mrs Marson has been in regular contact with the home’s Chief Executive and families of those who live there to help, advise and support.
In her letter to the minister, Mrs Marson said: “I met with the Family Association who feel the level of care required by their loved ones at St Elizabeth’s is simply unavailable to them elsewhere in the UK. Their lives are being turned upside down as a result.
“The home has every potential to be the centre of excellence it once was, providing the quality care people deserve whilst also delivering the kind of employment and training opportunities healthcare staff need to keep our wider health and social care sector going.
“All options are currently being explored to prevent St Elizabeth’s from having to close its doors on residents, including the possibility of a new care provider.
“I would be very grateful to meet with you to discuss this and any other support you may be able to offer during this difficult time.”
