Introducing Positive VA Solutions

EMERGING as a new company as a result of the pandemic, Positive VA Solutions was launched as a partnership between lifelong friends Laura Allan and Sarah Shalders in June 2020. In 2021 they transitioned the business to be a Limited Company, and are now going from strength-to-strength supporting companies with bespoke administration tasks, to give them the space and freedom to focus on more profitable areas of the business.

We recently caught up with Laura to find out more.

Please tell us about you and your business

The company was co-founded by myself and Sarah Shalders and we have been friends for 20+ years. After we were both made redundant during covid, we thought “When would be the best time to start a business? During a pandemic!” and just went for it!

In a sense the changes to the way people work have been beneficial to our business, because the pandemic has normalised working from home and opened up new doors for us. Unfortunately, when redundancies happen, it’s often admin staff that go first – as we found ourselves during the pandemic. However, those businesses and others still need admin support, and we have found that people can be more open to working with Virtual Assistants rather than permanent members of staff. We have the ability to provide extremely high levels of administration support and it’s great to see our clients develop with us.

Describe your typical customer

I work with a lot of trades and Sarah deals quite heavily with corporate firms and solicitors, the majority of which consult for the larger law firms.

We have 32 clients in total, which range from independent financial advisors, office furniture providers, events companies, business signs and graphics providers, electricians, plumbers, air conditioning fitters to businesses offering private charter flights.

It’s really varied, every day is different. We get to work with lots of different people and support their businesses to thrive and we love what we do.

How do you typically find B2B support for things like printing, maintenance or recruitment for your business?

Mostly word of mouth and recommendations although we do network well.
