ONE Tree Hill, near Thurrock, was the venue for the Essex Cross Country League on Saturday. Harlow had two teams in the U13 and U15 boys’ competition and several individuals at U15 level in the girls’ races.

George Watkins led the Harlow team to fifth place by winning in the fifty strong field. His winning time was 11.22 minutes, was close to five seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The quartet was completed by Ryan Chapman, Luke Tyrell-Price, and Ben Tucker. The trio finished in thirty-seventh, -eighth, and -ninth respectively. The positions combined for 115 points and fifth out of fifteen teams in the U13 competition.

Fifth place, out of twelve teams, was how the U15 boys ended the day also. Best runner on the day was Manny Richards, who was nineteenth in the forty-nine-runner field. Conner McEwan was next home in twenty-fifth. Remarkably, Daniel Hundley, Sonny Mowat and Edgar Hoyle repeated the thirty-seventh to thirty-ninth paces achieved by the U13s.

Isla Garrett and Abigail Cowling competed as individuals in the U15 girls’ competition and were placed twentieth and twenty-third respectively.
