Harlow MP Robert Halfon responds to PM Liz Truss’ resignation

HARLOW MP Robert Halfon has responded to the news that the prime minister Liz Truss has resigned.
Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow said: “The first thing I would like to say is to apologise to all the residents of Harlow and the villages for what has gone on over the past few weeks.
“Liz Truss has made the right decision by resigning. We are waiting to see the final details of the process going forwards, but it looks like there will be a new Prime Minister in place very soon.

“I will continue to do all I can to work hard for Harlow residents in Parliament to help cut the cost of living, champion education, skills, and apprentices, support the development of more affordable housing, and build an even better Harlow.
“The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has already set in train measures to do everything possible to bear down on inflation and interest rates. And despite everything that has gone on, I am glad that there will be an energy price freeze for all households until Spring next year. After April, this will then be targeted to provide support to those most in need. Alongside this, there is also a £400 payment being made to all Harlow households, and up to £1,200 of support will be going to the most vulnerable to help with the difficulties faced over this winter period.
“Harlow residents will know that I did not vote for Liz Truss as Leader because I was worried about the impacts of her economic policies. Instead, I supported Rishi Sunak because I felt his policies would be better in terms of cutting our national debt, and, at the same time, providing the financial support to help people with the cost of living.
“As has been widely reported in the national media, I challenged the Prime Minister face-to-face in a meeting last week because I was concerned about the direction of travel her Government was taking and wanted things to be put right. I also did some interviews and wrote an article in the Times which Your Harlow readers can see here: https://twitter.com/halfon4harlowMP/status/1581199046462431232
“I recognise that this has been a worrying time for everyone, and that this will be the last chance for the Government. Whoever becomes leader, must work to win back the trust of the public.”
Mr Halfon. You and your last chances! What a joke. The Govt has had its last chance, to remain in power (but not in control) after this shambles is untenable. Your head must be spinning from the different directions you’ve been supporting then regretting. The only democratic solution is a general election now, if we are denied this simple option it will only serve to prove what we all know is the case, your party is far more interested in itself than the good of the country. You constantly tell us you are on the side of your constituents. Now is the time to prove it and call for an immediate General Election. Anything less will show us exactly whose side you are on.
I feel gutted that Liz is going. Although I voted labour in the last election I feel that she could have taken us in a far far better direction than her public school clown predecessor. I feel the tory MP's, our own included, behaved abysmally towards her (just as they did Theresa May). I just hope that locally Labour get in place a candidate to give us a genuine choice although I haven't seen any sign of this. It would also be good if the local politicians, having put forward statements, had the ability to actually respond to the many comments they get
So Robert Halfon, what have you got to say to James Griggs, an election to let the people decide who is better suited to govern in todays climate, or carry on in utter confusion to the benefit of tory MPs only
I suggest that the Daily Star lettuce is made leader of the Tory party. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm-RE95lKJ0 The lettuce lasted longer than Liz Truss, went to less lock down parties than Boris, lies less than Boris, has greater integrity than Boris, does less U-turns than both of them, and greater intelligence than most of the Tory party. The Daily Star Lettuce for PM!
A Labour government will have to implement public spending cuts to appease the financial markets. Three major groups own government debt (gilts) and the second largest group is foreign investors (28% in 2021). They and UK private investors have not been benevolent to a Tory government and will be less so to a Labour one. Consequently, Sir Keir Starmer has signalled to the City of London that Labour will play nicely for the financiers. That means no real relief from a worldwide economic slowdown. But you told us to give Liz Truss a chance? What changed?
Defund them all
If Robert Halfon didn't continually state: I am working hard for Harlow and the people of Harlow, he and we may start to believe it, wouldn't we? No! The country is in a mess on the verge of recession and definitively heading to austerity, destitution, and poverty while the Conservatives play unfunny games of pass the parcel and musical chairs. Meanwhile in the real world families are struggling to pay their food, fuel and housing bills. Mr. Halfon your slogan is now wilting and hopefully will be gone by the next election.
Don’t tell us who your backing Robert it will be the kiss of death for that candidate. Just keep working hard for Harlow.
OMG so the Tory soap opera goes on and on what a shameful shambles, the Tories should face up to the fact and go asap they have had their chance and what a mess we’re in and worldwide laughing stock, this must be the end for them surely, this country needs a revolution now and REGIME CHANGE NOW.
BOY did the conservative MPs Incl You shoot yourselves in the foot when you voted to get rid of Borris.
James Griggs - your comment is spot on.
We need a general election NOW. The fact that Boris could possibly become prime minister again is a joke after he misled the country numerous times with Brexit, parties during COVID etc The British public did not vote for Liz Truss, and we potentially have another PM inflicted on us rather than being voted for. Are we living in a democracy or dictatorship? Whoever takes over from Liz Truss should call a general election to happen within 2-3 months
