FA Cup: Final Qualifying Round: Harlow Town 1 v 1 Bowers and Pitsea
Bowers win 4-3 on penalties
EVERYTHING about this game said it was going to be a heavy defeat for Harlow.
Following their manager’s departure, new boss Leon Holden has had to completely rebuild his team.
They have barely been able to field a team.
But today, they had eleven players, a full bench and a fantastic attitude and approach to the game that oh so nearly saw them through.
Harlow opened the scoring in the 15th minute, when a corner was whipped into the box and following some pin ball in the area, it fell for Sarah Payne to fire it into the top corner.
They fought so hard and so long. They may be relative strangers but they had shape, discipline and commitment.
They held out until the 69th minute when Millie Isherwood scored.
The Bowers had attack upon attack but they either found the woodwork or found a solid, determined Harlow defence.
They took Bowers to penalties and the inevitable heartache ensued.
Leon and his team should be very proud of themselves. We do hope he can build from here.
