UBER has extended Local Cab in Essex, enabling passengers to book trips with two additional local taxi operators via the Uber app.
Anyone opening the Uber app in Basildon or Harlow will be presented with the Local Cab option, which connects them with Value Cars in Basildon and Metro Cars in Harlow.
Local Cab trips will be booked directly with local operators, and all subsequent customer support will be provided by them.
The extension of Local Cab in Essex follows a launch with ABC Taxis earlier this year in Benfleet and Canvey Island.
Since the company’s successful pilot of Local Cab last year, the product has launched in over 60 locations across the UK.
Adam Stanton, Director at Value Cars said: “Partnering with Uber will provide more transport options to the local community, allowing them to easily book trips via taxi. We’re hoping that the extra trips Local Cab generates will also encourage more new drivers to join our fleet.”
Kyle Harris, Operations Director at Metro Cars said: “Demand for taxi services in Essex has grown considerably in recent months, so it’s great to be able to give passengers more options to get from A to B.”
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK: “We were thrilled to launch Local Cab in Essex earlier this year – rolling it out to more operators was the natural next step. This will help to maximise earnings opportunities for drivers and provide passengers living in the city with greater choice when booking a ride.”
