WORK continues on a major £260,000 revamp of The Red Lion. The pub closed at the end of service on Sunday 30th October and is set to reopen on 19th November just in time for the much-anticipated World Cup.
The investment and introduction of food and cask ale are designed to broaden the pub’s appeal, creating a community hub that appeals to customers of all ages including families.
Outside, the dated looking pub will be given a facelift with new signage and lighting. A new decking terrace is also being built and wooden tables and benches installed for alfresco eating and drinking for 80.
Inside, The Red Lion is being refurbished throughout to give it a brighter, smarter more contemporary look and feel. It will have two bars – a sports and lounge bar. The sports area will have darts and pool with rustic timber clad walls and a Heineken mural. It can also double up for functions. The lounge bar will have a fresher look with painted panelling and an eclectic mix of seating including wooden and wing back armchairs.
New high-definition TVs are being installed so that sport can be watched from anywhere in the pub. There will also be an outside TV for the smoking area to ensure no-one misses out on that all important goal!
As part of the refurbishment, the kitchen is being upgraded to enable the pub to serve a reasonably priced menu of traditional pub favourites.
Drinks wise, there will be two cask ales, and a selection of beers and ciders including Heineken, Guinness, Birra Moretti, Guinness as well as Strongbow Dark Fruits and Inchs cider and premium spirits and wine.
The latest dispense technology to improve the quality and consistency of draft beer and cider is being installed. The Smart Dispense System’s unique cooling technology and line insulation from keg to tap is 20% more energy efficient than standard systems, keeping cider and beer colder.
