Work set to transform Harlow Mill Railway Station

Business / Sun 27th Nov 2022 at 08:33am

WORK is about to get underway on a scheme to transform Harlow Mill station – with Greater Anglia advising people who park at or cycle to the station to use Harlow Town station while the improvement works are happening.

The works, due to start on Monday 28 November, will add 10 new car parking spaces to the current 24-space car park, along with an extra space for blue badge holders by the entrance. LED lighting will illuminate the car park for the first time.

An additional ticket machine will be installed at the station, with the waiting area on the London-bound platform 1 being improved by adding in an enclosed room with LED lighting and benches as well as a workstation with plug points for laptop and phone charging. A heating and cooling system will also be installed.

Cyclists will be able to use a new secure bike storage compound that will come complete with new LED lighting, CCTV cameras and a total of 12 spaces – six more than now.

The old ticket office will also be demolished.

The works mean that there will be significantly fewer car parking spaces available at Harlow Mill station while the project is ongoing. Drivers should use Harlow Town station instead, where up to four trains per hour run towards London.

The bike shelter at Harlow Mill station will also be temporarily removed as part of the work and cyclists should park their bikes at Harlow Town station.

Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s asset management director, said: “We appreciate drivers’ and cyclists’ patience while the improvement works at Harlow Mill are underway.

“The project will result in a more pleasant area for customers to be in while they wait for their train to arrive as well as better cycle parking.”

The station improvement works are planned to finish by spring 2023.

The work comes as the waiting shelter was recently upgraded on the Bishop’s Stortford-bound platform 2 at the station with LED lighting and a bench.

Greater Anglia has invested over £1 million in station improvements including installing nine new waiting shelters and refurbishing eight stations’ toilet facilities along with 450 platform benches at 76 stations across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

Spring 2023 sounds a long way off - how will the Co. inform us when the work is completed?

All sounds great. But no one actually uses the carpark anyway as to expensive so, as a result park in local neighbouring streets. Effecting residents who cannot park outside there own houses.

I park here everyday. Greater anglia have given me 2 days worth of warning that the car park is closed for 3 months. Ridiculous
